The vision for Retreat Christian Counseling is to be a place of healing and restoration for those who are hurting.

The vision that Shariee Sims has for Retreat Christian Counseling RCC-Psalm 23 is to be a place of healing and restoration for those who are hurting.  This was birthed out of her desire to assist those who are hurting. Shariee recognized that the intersection for healing was to offer counseling services that is both therapeutically based and biblically supported. This resulted in Shariee obtaining her Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Community Mental Health Technology from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) in Cleveland, Ohio. Shariee continued and obtained her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Cleveland State University in Urban Services Administration (Cleveland, Ohio), and her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Pastoral Counseling (MACPC) from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio.

Shariee is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), and an International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC) in the State of Ohio. She also is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Maryland. In addition, Shariee is a Licensed Minister at her local church. Shariee’s personal mission is, “To work magnanimously with those entrusted to me by encouraging their brilliance and motivating their potential to soar.”

Shariee has worked in the field of substance abuse and mental health since 1997. She has worked in various jails and prisons in Ohio, Arizona, Virginia, and Maryland as a substance abuse/mental health counselor, as a drug court counselor, program coordinator, program supervisor, and program manager. She has experience working with those who have encountered grief/loss, trauma, domestic violence, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, co-dependency, and those who feel spiritually disconnected. Shariee has worked with Veterans and she enjoys working with individuals, groups, and couples with assisting them in exploring ways to promote healing in their lives.  Shariee’s favorite quotes is, “It is in the moment of clarity that change begins.”

Shariee has presented at workshops and universities regarding counseling techniques. She has also participated at church and community health fairs regarding the impact substance use has on families.  Shariee has presented at leadership meetings and to the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), and the Virginia Department of Corrections regarding the procedures of the program she managed. 

Shariee loves spending time with her family and friends cooking, eating, and playing board games. Shariee enjoys attending the theater, ballet, and the Library of Congress’ annual National Book Festival in Washington, DC. She also enjoys bicycle riding, hula hooping, her weekly book discussion, serving at her church, watching comedy, classic movies, and listening to jazz.
